Here is the Amnesty International announcement that I mentioned previously. Personally I'm pleased to see that she is doing this. I sometimes have nitpicky disagreements with Amnesty International about little things (like semantics), but there really isn't a good way to argue against their mission of promoting human rights.
If you're considering last-minute end of the year charitable contributions, or just are in agreement that this kind of thing is noble, you might want to consider a donation to AI.
It has been a while since I tinkered with this site. Anyone who has actually tried to maintain a fan site for several years probably knows what this is like.
Still, it bugged me that the web links package wasn't working, and lo and behold, somewhere along the line the ability to log in had broken, even for me.
It took some time to sort that out, and while I was at it I ran a bunch of software upgrades. Web links are still broken but I figured that's okay for now, and just disabled that module. At least everything that is offered should just work.
I have some screen caps from Career Opportunities to post, I'll get around to that eventually. Also some news about Jennifer and a new post with Amnesty International that I find interesting.
OK, I originally posted this as a link instead of a news item. The rest of the day, my brain was actually quite focused, but that was kind of a Bill and Ted moment.
Jennifer considering a new movie role.
From Reuters: "Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Connelly is in negotiations to join Kate Winslet in "Little Children" for New Line Cinema."
Sounds weird, and weird is good.
I just uploaded 91 captures from A Beautiful Mind. These are also from the Mads archive; I think these are a little small but it will be a while before I get around to making my own captures (except for Career Opportunities, which I don't seem to have any for yet). This was of course a really good movie. I'd like to get around to the book someday, I've heard good things about it (and it is not surprisingly more informative).
There are 45 pictures in this update, look for them in the movies section. Note that the list of movies is already long enough to need a second page, so if you don't see it look for the 'page 2' button.
This was a cheesy made-for-TV movie. I saw it when it first came out (1993), and taped it, but VHS doesn't always last long and so the tape was unwatchable when I got it out to show it to someone. There's good people in the cast. Dennis Hopper, Eric Stoltz, heck, you even see Vincent Price briefly, but it just didn't look like anyone was actually trying to make a good movie with them. So if you never saw it, don't worry, and if you get the chance to, make sure you are inebriated first.
Seventeen new pictures uploaded, again these are originally from Mads' collection. I thought this movie had a lot of potential but just went to too many extremes to try to get its points across.
I have just uploaded 98 images from Labyrinth. These, like many of the pictures already here, are originally from Mads Brevik's excellent but now-offline site. For the curious, the very large images in the Publicity Photos section are the ones I'm responsible for, and over time I've actually become more proud of the work I had to do to clean those up (it's laborious work).
Anyway I hope you enjoy them. I'm old enough that Labyrinth was about my speed when it first came out, and I first saw Jennifer Connelly in a Muppet magazine interview of some sort that my brother had lying around. That makes me feel even older now that I've said it. Someone fetch me my cane, I have to go yell at some whipper-snappers!
I've had this site for years now and every so often I rework it. One thing I've learned is that there is a huge difference between being able to accomplish something, and dedicating the time to actually do it. So I am limiting the amount of custom scripting that I do here, and relying more on the wondrous web packages that have popped up. I am spending more time organizing large amounts of data (which is, as it turns out, not too dissimilar from the bioinformatics I do during the day) and less time worrying about how it is presented.
Most of you are just going to want to breeze on in and browse through images. In anticipation of that I have put the image gallery as the default visible module.
Feedback is always welcome. I have had some strange emails over time but never too many to handle. Enjoy!
